All Community Sponsors Dublin Police Department to hold 911 training for explorers program Submitted by Ashley.Trawick on Wednesday, August 5th, 10:02 am The Dublin Police Department is holding a 911 & Communications training for its Explorers Program Thursday, August 20 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Laurens County 911 Center. Lt. Rene Laird with the department said the program is for kids from ages 14 to 21. She said examples of other trainings include impaired driving, accident investigation and CPR/first aid. In order to register, please contact Lt. Laird at 478-277-5023 and leave her a message or teens can show up to the Center and applications will be provided then. View Comments | Post a Comment Share: Dubliners rally for David Hooks Submitted by Jake Wade Monday, June 15th, 2015, 4:30pm Around thirty people rallied in front of the Laurens County courthouse today, saying they demanded justice for David Hooks. He's the local contractor who was shot and killed by Laurens County deputies last year during a drug bust, but his family attorney says, no drugs were found in the home. Several people signed petitions asking the grand jury to investigate the death of Hooks as a felony murder. "We expect the police to serve and protect us. When we have to fear the process and fear the law enforcement and coming into your home and potentially taking your life. It makes me very, very nervous," said Tanya Burgess. Burgess says as an attorney and citizen from Laurens County, the David Hooks case is shocking. She came here to rally for Hooks and petition the grand jury to look at this case as a felony murder. The announcement was made at the Sandersville Rotary. Carey was chosen by a panel of local leaders to represent OFTC at the regional level. The runners-up included Karonda Hall, Respiratory Care (Laurens County); Olive Rehberg, Medical Assisting (Laurens County); and Abbie Smith, Radiologic Technology (Bleckley County). “I am so happy to have been part of such an amazing group of students. It was such an honor to be chosen among such talented, smart, and motivated people,” said Carey. “I am looking forward to Regional competition and having the opportunity to meet fellow students that are inspired and motivated to succeed through technical education.” Read More View Comments | Post a Comment Share: Commercial Truck Driving Students Net Scholarships Submitted by Oconee Fall Line Technical College , OFTC Marketing and PR Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015, 10:18am The OFTC Foundation North, Inc. selected Reginald Henderson, William Cook, Nictavious Freeman, and Dexter Forney to each receive a $100.00 Jack English Commercial Truck Driving (CTD) Scholarship. Dr. Tiffany Daniel created the scholarship in memory of her late father, Jack R. English, who was a driving force in establishing the truck-driving program at OFTC. He served as director of the program until 2001. In addition, Steven Kendall was the recipient of a $100.00 Howard Sheppard, Sr. CTD Scholarship. The Howard Sheppard, Sr. CTD Scholarship was established by the Sheppard family in memory of the late Howard Sheppard, Sr. Mr. Sheppard was the founder and President of Howard Sheppard, Inc. until his death in 2011 and was a firm believer in assisting others. OFTC and the OFTC Foundation North, Inc. would like to congratulate all of our scholarship winners.
